My thoughts on "Modal Soul", an album by Nujabes

On November 11, 2005, the Japanese producer, DJ, and composer, Seba Jun, also known as his stage name Nujabes, released his second studio album - Modal Soul. Much like Nujabes's previous work, Modal Soul fuses classical hip hop rhythms, traditional Japanese-influenced jazz instrumentation, and thought provoking, message-oriented rap.
The album starts off with "Feather", featuring hip hop artists Cise Starr, and Akin, and is a perfect introduction to the sound of the rest of the album. It introduces Nujabes's signature lavish and high quality production, as well as the lyrical, yet laid-back style of rapping that will appear multiple times throughout the album. Modal Sound has a cohesive atmosphere and a moderately repetitive production style, making it an easy listening experience for new listeners, whilst not taking away from the originality and intricacy of each song.
When listening to this album you get an overwhelming feeling of serenity and peace. The
beautiful instrumentals, hypnotizing drum grooves, and soothing vocals throughout Modal Soul, combined with the feeling of tranquility you experience makes listening to this album an amazing, unique and truly unforgettable experience.
Due to these reasons, Modal Soul has become my favorite album of all time, and I definitely do not see myself stop listening to it any time soon.
